Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
(Redirected from Wikipedia:RfPP)
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:ProtectedPages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for protection increases at the BOTTOM of this section. If you cannot find your request, check the archive of requests or, failing that, the page history. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: White washing pov edit warring by an IP Spartaz Humbug! 10:43, 25 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: As I pointed out in Talk, there have been a few bad faith edits that have been reverted, though some of the content was worthy of inclusion in the article, but not in the lead, per MOS:LEADBIO.--UrbanVillager (talk) 12:07, 25 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Declined Looks like they've stopped now. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 07:14, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Suggest protection until the end of May, after the season has finished and all the positions have been confirmed. Thanks. Spartathenian (talk) 12:32, 25 April 2025 (UTC).[reply]

Declined – Likely collateral damage as one or several users who are making improvements would be affected by the requested protection. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 07:17, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Disruptive edit warring over notability template without any evidence to assert notability. Talk page discussion from the IP editor seems WP:NOTHERE. -1ctinus📝🗨 16:02, 25 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 07:17, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Should be protected under Wikipedia:General_sanctions/Armenia_and_Azerbaijan - Politics, ethnic relations, and conflicts involving Armenia, Azerbaijan, or both—broadly construed and explicitly including the Armenian genocide—are placed under an extended confirmed restriction. Was recently vandalized by an editor to display a massive Turkish flag on the Memorial day for the Armenian Genocide - Such gross oversights should be prevented in the future, and the general sanction agrees. WeaponizingArchitecture | yell at me 16:08, 25 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism (look at the History). Grenouille-e (talk) 21:01, 25 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 07:21, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent block evasion by Kelonwatopdog. Please see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Kelownatopdog for the details. --A.S. Brown (talk) 22:42, 25 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary full protection: Content dispute/edit warring. Capitals00 (talk) 01:52, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of IP vandalism, adding nonsensical content despite countless reversions. Consistent and ongoing for years. Rhain (he/him) 04:41, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary pending changes protection: Persistent sockpuppetry. Alshahid sahi was blocked for making repeated unsourced edits, many to add a specific name as owner[1], then they sockpuppeted as 143.44.184.235 to continue making the same edit[2], and now another puppet has appeared in Al-shahid s sahi with the same edit[3]. SPI investigation is here. fifteen thousand two hundred twenty four (talk) 05:47, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: High level of edits to remove "discredited" from the lead, often by IP editors, sometimes claiming that it is unsourced. The statement is sourced both in body and lead, and consensus for it has been established. Could editing be restricted to registered users, who have a greater chance of having read e.g. MOS:LEAD? UndercoverClassicist T·C 06:21, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Favonian (talk) 08:08, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you -- though this has been going on for a long time, so I'd be surprised if we don't see it return after those two weeks are up. I suppose the process at that point would be to bring the article back here? UndercoverClassicist T·C 08:10, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Correct. Going straight to a long-term protection for an article that has never been protected before is "frowned upon". Favonian (talk) 08:13, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Please, protect my user discussion page, I've become a frequent target for at least one LTA. Thanks in advance, Karol739 (talk) 08:24, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – We have multiple IP addresses and new users adding and changing the article, which one mixed with other good edits it takes time to weed out. FuzzyMagma (talk) 08:28, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. A09|(talk) 08:31, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Article was protected since 2012. The article doesn't have that much page views also. We can try to unprotect this one! 🍕BP!🍕 (🔔) 01:25, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Connormah, as the administrator who originally protected this article in 2012, would you like to handle this unprotection request? — Newslinger talk 09:19, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
